Audemars Piguet: The world’s largest fashion brands – history and offer

Audemars Piguet is one of the world’s most famous Swiss watch manufacturers. Established in 1875, Audemars Piguet has become synonymous with luxury watches from the Royal Oak Offshore line and other models. The company is also known for sponsoring many prestigious events around the world, including Formula 1 racing, polo matches, golf tournaments (including Wimbledon), car racing (like Le Mans) and many more. But what are some of the lesser-known facts about this brand? Let’s find out!

The first watch from Audemars Piguet appeared on the wrist in the 1920s – when their future CEO was born. Moreover, it wasn’t until 1950 that women were allowed to wear AP on their wrists. There was a huge demand for men’s watches at the time, so women were emphatically told to drop off when they tried to order or buy AP.

Many people consider the Royal Oak Offshore line to be Audemars Piguet’s finest creation and a watch worthy of James Bond himself (Daniel Craig wore it at Skyfall). Before that, however, there was another model that made his name famous all over the world – and it wasn’t an automatic watch! The first self-winding mechanism did not appear until 1945, while from 1917 to 1950 the AP used manual mechanisms with a Swiss lever mechanism. Prior to 1970, most of these envelopes had massive backs; those who wanted to see what was working inside could visit any authorized AP dealer.

The first watches from Audemars Piguet were pocket watches, but they didn’t stay on the market for long. In fact, it wasn’t until 1920 that AP introduced the wrist watches as we know them today to their collection.

Not only men wore AP watches – Audrey Hepburn also had a very special watch made by the brand especially for her! What model did she choose? Women’s watch with diamonds on the dial and bezel (known as the “Hepburn”). It made history at Christie’s 1993 auction, when one lucky bidder bought it for $ 231,000. Another famous woman wearing AP was Elizabeth Taylor; chose a white gold Datejust during her wedding to Richard Burton.

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is one of the most iconic watches ever, and also has its place on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s wrist. The actor / politician wore it for over 20 years before swapping it out for another model from AP – this time an ultra-thin automatic watch (with a silver dial). It’s worth noting that Arnold doesn’t wear any brand other than AP!

In its long history, Audemars Piguet has only had two CEOs: Octavio Pérez and his son Thierry Pérez (who became CEO in 1996 at just 31 years old!). In fact, the owner, Mr. Perez, makes all final decisions about anything related to design or manufacturing; he also personally selects watches for his customers.

Audemars Piguet is one of the most successful brands on social media; they have a huge amount of followers on all their platforms and regularly share interesting fashion posts or news from all over the world. Their Facebook page has over 800,000 likes – quite impressive! Finally, AP also runs a luxury goods blog (for those interested in buying more expensive items). And many other facts you can find on their website.
